Clarke University sophomore
Brittany Demmer has earned a spot in the 2012 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 24-26 in Marion, Indiana.
Demmer, a product of Dubuque Hempstead High School, won the hammer throw competition at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships this past weekend in Clinton, Iowa, with an NAIA qualifying throw of 47.07 meters. Demmer placed third in the discus.
Clarke's
Morgan Bradford, who earlier qualified for nationals, took the MCC pole vault title with a clearance of 3.5 meters.
Sophomore
Samantha Francois, of Dubuque, won the 400 meter hurdles in a school record time of 1:04.76, but was .06 seconds off the national qualifying mark.
Megan Lehmkuhl, a sophomore from Clinton, took second in the triple jump (10.84 meters). Lehmkuhl placed third in the 400m dash in 59.74 seconds and set a new Clarke record. Lehmkuhl also set school marks in the 100m dash (12.65) and in the 200m dash (26.33).
Hannah Day ran to third place in the 800m run in 2:18.66.
Clarke senior Russ ReVoir, of Waukon, Iowa, competed in his first MCC championship since his sophomore year and placed second to Ashford NAIA All-American Austin Smith with a clearance of 1.91 meters.
The men's 4x100m relay of Casey Smith, Tyler Ernst, Anthony Worden, and Brendan Walters also set a new Clarke record by finishing in 44.17 seconds.
The 4x800m relay team of Graham Mahon, Zachery Molid, Stacy Latnie, and Nick Anderson finished inthird place in 7:55.37.
Paul Cave set school markes in the 400m dash (50.38) and in the 400 m hurdles (56.15).
Clarke's women's team placed fifth in the two-day conference championship, while Clarke's men's team finished sixth.
