Clarke University made the most of five hits and Kasey Stenger scattered five hits in the Crusaders 2-1 win over William Penn University Saturday in a Midwest Collegiate Conference play-in game in Davenport, Iowa.

Clarke (8-26) then dropped a 5-0 matchup with top-seeded St. Ambrose. The Crusaders will now face Mount Mercy at noon on Sunday.

Coach Jaclyn Salzwedel's fifth-seeded Crusaders took a 2-0 lead over the fourth-seeded Statesmen with a pair of runs in the second inning. The Crusaders, who had three of their five hits in the inning, went up 1-0 when Danielle Stralow crossed the plate following a bases-on-balls to Sonia Colavita. Brianne Boals followed with an RBI single that plated Rachel Arns to make it 2-0.

William Penn (32-21) scored its only run in the fourth.

Stenger struck out two and walked one in the complete game victory.
