The Clarke University women's soccer team ended its regular season with a bang on Saturday, hosting Mount Mercy University. After playing 99 and a half minutes of scoreless soccer, the Crusaders were able to notch their first MCC win of 2013. Devan Stieber's goal with just 27.9 seconds left in overtime lifted Coach Tyler Watkins' squad to a 1-0 victory. Stieber was assisted by senior Brittany Sova.
After the game, Clarke honored its six seniors Hilary Van Praag, Catherine Savitch, Abigail Willich, Emily Janecek, Danni Garcia, and Sova.
"Great overtime win for our seniors," said Watkins. "They have all given so much throughout their careers. This result will help us in our quest to extend our season."
The win clinched the fifth seed headed into the MCC playoffs for Clarke. The Crusaders will play number four AIB College of Business on Saturday in Des Moines at 1:00 p.m. Full playoff schedules for round one can be found below.
During the men's game, Clarke and Mount Mercy came out firing, each scoring two goals in the first half. However, Clarke would be unable to add anymore once play resumed, as Mount Mercy went on to score three unanswered goals to win 4-2. The Crusaders' offense was powered by a pair of unassisted goals from Andrew Westcott and Jared Perez.
