Oskaloosa--The Midwest Collegiate Conference's seven programs will do battle over the next week and a half in search of a national tournament berth as the 2013 postseason tournament begins Saturday.
Saturday's quarterfinals will pit #2 Viterbo against #7 AIB in La Crosse, Wis., #3 Clarke against #6 William Penn in Dubuque, and #4 St. Ambrose against #5 Mount Mercy in Davenport. All games are scheduled for 7 p.m. start times. The matchups, not the seedings though, coincidentally are the same as in 2012.
The St. Ambrose-Mount Mercy winner will then face top seed Grand View in the semifinal round next Wednesday, November 13, in Des Moines. The Vikings took the conference crown at 6-0, securing the title by knocking off Viterbo in a matchup of unbeaten squads Wednesday night.
Viterbo swept AIB 3-0 on October 23, while St. Ambrose also swept Mount Mercy that night. Clarke upended William Penn 3-1 on October 22.
The MCC's championship game will be contested next Saturday, November 16. The tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round on November 23 at a site to be determined.
