William Penn University raced to a 35-17 halftime advantage Saturday afternoon and went on to post a 74-49 Midwest Collegiate Conference home win over Clarke College. Kylie Birkicht and Christa Subbert each tallied 14 points for the Lady Statesmen (6-10, 1-2 MCC).
A 12-2 run that put the hosts up 22-10 with nine minutes left in the opening half and the Statesmen built a 35-17 lead at the break. Penn ran off the first 13 points of second half.
Laura Gaylord led Clarke (1-13, 0-3 MCC) with 12 points and five assists.
Joquetta Rolle chipped in 11 points and had a game-high 13 rebounds. Rolle ranks fourth nationally in NAIA Divison II rebounding, averaging over 12 rebounds per game.
Clarke will travel to Kenosha, Wis., on Monday, Jan. 5, for a non-confernece game with Carthage College. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
