The Clarke College men's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference home matches Friday at the Robert and Ruth Kehl Center. The Crusaders posted a 3-0 win over Carthage College before dropping a 3-1 match to defending NAIA Men's Volleyball National Invitational Tournament Championship national champion Park University.

Clarke junior transfer Casey Sawyer, of Hemet, Calif., hit .545 and had a match-high 22 kills in the win over Carthage. The 22 kills were the highest 3-set total in school history. The previous mark was 19 set by Joe Gustafson against Loyola-Chicago in 2002 and matched by Ed Frederick in 2008.
 
Alex Wilharm added 12 kills and nine digs to lead the Crusaders to a 30-24, 30-23, 30-21 win.

Matt Redman had 43 assists for Clarke, while Ethan Holly had seven kills and six blocks.

Clarke outhit Carthage (3-7) .379 to .080. The Crusaders hit .484 in set one, .294 in set two, and .368 in set three.

Eric Ball and Tyler Frings each had eight kills for Carthage.

Park (4-0) outhit the Crusaders .329 to .212 and took the first of two scheduled meetings with Clarke this winter, 23-30, 30-22, 30-25, 33-31. Henry Uribe had a match-high 32 kills to lead the Pirates. Florian Gornik and Erick Albuquerque added 17 and 12 kills, respectively.

Clarke outhit Park .409 to .188 in the first set.

Sawyer tallied 17 kills and 13 digs in the Park match. Alex Wilharm had 14 kills and Ethan Holly added 12.

Clarke (5-2) will begin a five-match road swing next Wednesday, when the Crusaders play a Mid-America Men's Intercollegiate Volleyball Conference match at St. Ambrose University.
