Michelle Jamison's driving jumper with 14.9 seconds left broke a 78-all tie and Clarke College held on for an 81-78 Midwest Collegiate Conference home win Saturday over William Penn University. Jamison hit the second of two free throws with 10 seconds left to put the Crusaders up by three, and a pair of William Penn field goal attempts in the closing seconds were off the mark.

Laura Gaylord scored a team-high 20 points for Clarke, while Joquetta Rolle chipped in 18 points and claimed game rebounding honors with 13. Jamison finished with 13 points.

Clarke (3-21, 2-9 MCC) built a 45-37 halftime lead and led by as many as 12 points in the second half before the visiting Lady Statesman erased the deficit and took their lead of the game with 4:38 to play. Penn led by one with 1:06 to play before a Gaylord three-point field goal put the Crusaders up by two. The Lady Statesmen evened things up with two free throws. That set up Jamison's eventual game-winning field goal.

Christa Subbert poured in a game-high 34 points for William Penn (8-17, 1-10 MCC). Subbert hit 12-of-16 shots from the field and was 8-of-9 from the charity stripe.

Penn shot 49.1 percent, while Clarke hit 43.9 percent of its field goal attempts.

Clarke's defense forced 20 Penn turnovers.

Clarke will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 7, when the Crusaders travel to Forest City, Iowa to face Waldorf College. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
