Clarke College junior
Casey Sawyer has been named to the 2009 Mid-America Men's Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference East Division All-Conference team, while four other members of Coach
Chris Miron's squad were named to the league's Academic All-Conference unit.
Sawyer, a 6-foot junior outside hitter from Hemet, Calif., led Clarke's 2009 squad in kills (419), kills per set (3.84) and reception percentage (.974), and ranked second in both digs (222) and digs per set (2.04). Sawyer transferred to Clarke this year from Palamar College.
Named to the MAMVIC East Division All-Conference team were
Andy Bishop (So., Niles, Ill.),
Ethan Holly (Jr., Tempe, Ariz.),
Alex Kelsheimer (So., St. Louis, Mo.), and
Alex Wilharm (So., Decorah, Iowa).
Holly is a repeat selection on the Academic All-Conference team.
To be eligible for the honor team, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.25 grade point average and must have completed one year of studies at his current institution.
Clarke finished 18-13 overall this past season and was 5-5 in conference play.
