Clarke College's women's team is in third place after day one at the 2009 Midwest Collegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Dubuque. Clarke's men's team is in sixth place in this year's championship, which is being contested at the University of Dubuque's Chalmers Field.
Clarke won three women's events on Thursday. Senior
Emily Brown, of Delano, Calif., took first place in the discus with a throw of 37.64 meters. Clarke freshman
Morgan Bradford, of Anderson, S.C., claimed the pole vault competition with a clearance of 3.13 meters, while Crusader junior
Joquetta Rolle, of Cocoa, Fla., won the women's long jump with a leap of 5.31 meters.
St. Ambrose leads the women's team standings with 93 points. The Queen Bees are followed by Grand View (85), Clarke (55), Mount Mercy (26), William Penn (26), Ashford (11) and Iowa Wesleyan (6).
Grand View leads the men's competition with 77 points. The Vikings are followed by St. Ambrose (56), William Penn (45), Ashford (39), Mount Mercy (34), Clarke (10) and Iowa Wesleyan (6).
The championship will resume at 10 a.m. on Friday.
