
Clarke College closed out the home portion of its 2009-10 men's basketball season Wednesday with an 83-77 win over Viterbo University on Senior Night at the Robert and Ruth Kehl Center. Clarke senior Cory Billingsley (Lemoore, Calif.) scored a game-high 30 points for Coach Jerry Drymon's Crusaders, who wrap up regular-season play Saturday at St. Ambrose University.
Billingsley hit 9 of 15 shots from the field, including 3 of 6 from beyond the three-point arc, and was perfect in nine attempts from the charity stripe. He scored 19 of his 30 points in the second half.
Eli Fitzsimons (Jr., Darlington, Wis.) added 16 points, while Thomas Ammon (Sr., Redding, Calif.) and Travis Ferrell (Jr., Sanger, Calif.) added 13 and 12 points, respectively. Ferrell dished out eight assists and grabbed six rebounds.
Scott Buschman (Sr., Naperville, Ill.) and Eric Ambrose (Sr., Twin Lakes, Wis.) each tallied 23 points for Viterbo (12-14, 10-5 MCC). Buschman pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to lead the V-Hawks to a 39-27 advantage on the boards.
Clarke fell behind 21-10 in the early going and trailed 38-29 at the break. Viterbo shot 65.2 percent from the field in the opening half.
Clarke battled back in the second half shooting 61.5 percent, while Viterbo managed to shoot just 34.3 in the final 20 minutes of play.
Billingsley gave Clarke the lead for good when his three-point field goal put the Crusaders up 65-63 with 5:21 to play. Billingsley's trey fueled an 8-0 by the hosts.
Clarke shot 56 percent overall and hit 9 of 19 shots from beyond the three-point arc. Viterbo finished 46.6 percent for the game but hit just 3 of 14 shots from three-point range.
Viterbo won the women's contest 71-55.
