Coach Kris Dorn's Clarke College men's volleyball team went 2-0 Monday on the opening day of the Grand Canyon University Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona. Clarke, ranked No. 3 in this week's NAIA/AVCA Poll, improved to 14-3 overall with wins over host Grand Canyon University (31-29, 28-30, 30-26, 30-22) and No. 2 Hope International University (30-28, 31-29, 30-28).

In the win over Grand Canyon, Alex Wilharm and Travis Wills each put down 14 kills. Bobby Springer added 11 kills, while Jeremy DeWeerdt had 10 kills and seven blocks. Matt Redman had 57 assists and 8 blocks. Dan Tringale tallied 16 digs.

Wills hit .321 for the Crusaders, who outhit the hosts .204 to .121.

Wills added a match-high 16 kills in win over Hope Inernational. Bobby Springer contributed 10 kills and four blocks.

Clarke will continue tournament play Tuesday, facing Hope International at 4 p.m. and Grand Canyon at 7 p.m.

The tournament will conclude on Wednesday.
