Clarke College's baseball team improved to 13-10 overall and 3-3 in Midwest Collegiate Conference play with an 8-1 win over Viterbo University Wednesday in La Crosse, Wis., while Coach Liz Garthright's Crusader softball team split a pair of MCC games against the host V-Hawks, taking the opener 8-3 before falling 1-0 in the nightcap.

Jared Munson went 3-for-5 at the plate and first baseman Chris Briggs had three RBIs for the Crusaders. Clarke starter Jake Moser (3-1) picked up the win, allowing three hits and one run in six innings of mound duty. Pete Sullivan struck out five, walked none and allowed three hits in three innings of relief.

Clarke will host Mount Mercy in an MCC doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 5, at A.J. Spiegel Park in Peosta, Iowa.

Nicky Newhoff (7-4) struck out five, walked none and scattered five hits in Clarke's 8-3 win in game one. First baseman Colleen Dansart was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored for the Crusaders.

Viterbo took the nightcap 1-0, scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth.

Clarke starter Caitlin Woods (1-5) took the loss for Clarke (9-13, 3-5 MCC).

Clarke will host Ashford University at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, at Vets Park.
