History did not repeat itself Monday night at the Robert and Ruth Kehl Center.
Coach
Don Adams' Crusaders, who let a seven-point lead slip away in the closing minutes of a 61-60 setback at Viterbo University on Dec. 3, didn't let the V-Hawks off the hook in the rematch and claimed a 58-48 Midwest Collegiate Conference victory.
Clarke freshman
Cassie Carlson hit 4-of-6 shots from beyond the three-point arc and finished with 14 points, while freshman
Anna Hahn added 13 points and six rebounds.
Clarke (5-16, 2-8 MCC) used a 13-0 run to build a 15-point advantage with 11:51 left in the opening half . The Crusaders owned a 35-22 advantage at the break.
Viterbo closed within six points on two occasions in the final four minutes of play, but
Cassie Carlson put the Crusaders back up by nine with a trey and
Brittany Collier's jumper put the hosts up by eight with 2:40 remaining.
Viterbo outrebounded Clarke 34-33, but the V-Hawks shot just 32 percent from the field and committed 15 turnovers. Clarke shot 42.6 percent from the field and turned the ball over seven times.
Dani Templin led Viterbo (9-13, 7-3 MCC) with game highs in both scoring (18) and rebounding (9). Brooke Anderson chipped in 14 points.
Clarke will continue MCC play at home on Thursday, hosting Mount Mercy University at 5:30 p.m. The Crusaders will entertain Grand View University at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
