Clarke University avenged an earlier setback to Viterbo University Monday night with a 77-58 Midwest Collegiate Conference win over the V-Hawks. The victory lifted the Crusaders season mark to 13-7 and evened their MCC record at 5-5.
DJ Nunn led Coach
Jerry Drymon's squad with a game-high 16 points. The Crusaders also had double-figure scoring performanes from
Luke Cassedy (13),
Kris Brooks (12), and
Brock Zins (10). Nunn hit 7-of-9 shots from the field and had four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Clarke built a 32-23 lead at halftime and led by as many as 24 points in the closing minutes of play.
Brooks claimed game rebounding honors with eight, leading Clarke to a commanding 30-16 advantage on the boards. That, coupled with the Crusaders' 59.6 percent shooting from the field and a 17-of-19 showing from the charity stripe, was too much for the visitors to overcome.
Matt Turba led Viterbo (8-14, 3-7 MCC) with 15 points, while Izac Sheforgen and Cole Lewis each contributed 11 points.
Clarke will continue its four-game homestand by hosting Mount Mercy University at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Grand View University will visit the Kehl Center on Saturday.
