Jaclyn Salzwedel's Crusader softball squad finished a Cinderella run to the MCC Final Four with a 7-5 loss to William Penn on Sunday. Clarke was just one win away from playing another surprise team and eventual champion, Iowa Wesleyan, for the MCC title.

Fresh from winning an MCC opening round tournament championship this past weekend, Coach Jaclyn Salzwedel's Clarke University softball team will now turn its attention to this weekend's Midwest Collegiate Conference Final Four in Des Moines, Iowa. The Crusaders will face Iowa Wesleyan College at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the tournament's opening game on the Drake University campus.

Clarke University punched its ticket into next weekend's Midwest Collegiate Conference Final Four Softball Tournament with a 3-2 win over William Penn University Sunday in Oskaloosa. Coach Jaclyn Salzwedel's Crusaders, who entered the first round of the MCC Tournament as the number nine seed, claimed their third one-one decision this weekend, including two over top-seeded William Penn.

March 15, 2008, Cedar Falls, Iowa, native Nicky Newhoff toed the rubber for the
first time as both a Clarke Crusader and a collegiate pitcher. The young hurler
tossed a complete game and struck out seven batters. While Newhoff took the
loss, her strong performance signaled the start of a brilliant career.
